After nearly three months of hibernation...

I am back...it has been a really really long time...I will blame it on non-availability of time, location change from india to US, project work, but I can't deny that I sometimes redefine laziness. But now I am back and here goes my random thoughts from the last three months...

* I cant describe how relieved i was to come here and see s~ at the airport. The gruelling flight journey and the security checks dint matter much at that point of time.

* I can never forget that I had to pay 900 bucks to come to bombay international airport from the domestic airport!!!! After all this, that guy asked me 100 bucks to take the luggage out of the car. With my little hindi speaking skills I managed to escape that but coudnt do anything at all about the 900 bucks. I somehow had to get there, and I was running late.

* Assembling furniture is fun only for the first few minutes. After that it becomes - Oh my god! when will complete this. I remembered this 'friends' serial where ross is assembling a furniture and joey and chandler are doing another. In the end joey finds that they have an extra piece which he does not know what to do with and puts in the trash. Then we see Ross searching for a piece that is shown in the drawing but he is not able to find it :-))) It is fun to watch people struggle but it is not so much fun when you are the one who is struggling.

* All the movies which I have seen in AMC have been crappy. I would have seen atleast 7-8 movies till now and it has been a total waste. But we did find a nice little theater -Mann theatre where we can see the same movie for 3$. The movies get released here after they are screened in AMC. But am I complaining???

* Thalai Diwali - I had started with ambitious plans of making 'therattupal'. But it requires so much patience plus the quantity kept reducing, I had to convert it into my tried and tested carrot halwa :-)

*My first experience with the slot machines...we made 200 bucks and then we lost all of them too:-(

*BTW, is it normal to receive thank you cards from pharmacy? We just got a medicated moisturizing cream and we got a thank you card sighned by all the employees. It said the entire staff would like to thank us for choosing them as the pharmacy and that they hoped the first visit to pharmacy was enjoyable...atleast it did not say, hope you come back again:-)

*And now to the best and latest update - we are going to vegas & grand canyon during thanks giving. I have already started the coutdown :-)

Krishna Jayanthi, PS and Opal Mehta...

Made seedai for Krishna Jayanthi. The salt was slightly on the higher side but came out well especially for a first attempt.

Finished reading all the six books of Ponniyin Selvan. Great story amazingly written, but not without a few disappointments. When I read a book, I expect an end to all the characters - lot of characters just vanish suddenly. I guess I commented just too soon on VV. The liking died off pretty fast. I mean, who would like a guy who does not even have the courage to propose to a girl even after knowing she likes him????

After some heavy reading, thought I needed something breezy and light - caught hold of How Opal Mehta got wild....liked it!

Can someone invent a "thing" finder???

where i can substitute "thing" with anything i want...

Losing something is irritating...but most irritating is you can rememebr where you could have lost it..

I went to my perimma's place...i can swear i had my id card with me...i placed it on
the bed there...talked to them about my amma's eye operation...later my amma also came...
after some chit-chatting we left...now rewind a lil, i did keep my id card back in my bag
as i was talking...we took an auto and came home...the next day morning my id card disappears
Now, did i keep it in my bag or not...i know for sure it was on the bed...it is not there
at my perimaa's house now...so it has to be with me...but it is not...how many times have
i played this sequence of events!

Next, the ipod charger, i took the ipod to UK, and brought it back. I remember the charger was attached to the ipod. s~ and myself took ipod to bangalore...but was the charger along
with it or not(dont remember)...we did not listen because there was no charge...i had the charger with me when i was in UK, after that we went to bangalore...it is not there in bangalore...not in chennai...no way i can check if it is in UK.
Again struck!

luckily i found the watch which S~ gave for my bday...before even i told him i had misplaced it
I am no monica but i usually find things from my own mess...and importantly i have not lost many things (unlike S~ who has lost 2 mobile phones till now!)

My Lil Sis Blogs...

and I came to know of it only a few days back...Well, to me she is a kutti girl...even now i remember the day when she joined lkg...she was holding the hands of my mom and dad, standing inbetween, posing for a pic :-)...This blog tells me that she has grown up...to have opinions of her own!! Good luck archa..keep blogging.

She has written a really nice post Story of Little Prince . I did not watch that in the television...but it only shows how emotional people we are and the media knows that. For what other event did they show minute by minute detail of what was happening???

Every time i see the departure area in our airport, I think of this. It is probably 5 minutes we get to see our friends and relatives before they go to the security check, but people stand across the railing, waving to their loved ones as they get the boarding pass, hoping they would come back to them to have a few words before they proceed to the security check.

Last time I went to UK, and S~ was standing on the other side, I felt like why the hell did I accept this assignment. Similarly when S~ left to the US few weeks back, it was soon after the bombay blast and visitors were not allowed inside the airport, I felt a little sad. I just got out of the cab, and he had to leave. Probably if I had gone in, I would have got 5-10 minutes with him. But it still matters. That is the way I am!

Back 2 Base

Been to Hyd and then Bangalore and now back to good old chennai. Had been to Hyd for project work. As a rule, I will not dwelve into work related stuff in this blog.

Whereever I go, I seem to have this habit of comparing the place with chennai. In Hyd the roads are real good (if you are from chennai, roads will seem good whereever you go:-)). Bur seriously, the roads are good. But people drive recklessly. The last time I went, I witnessed bikes sprawling on the ground and sparks coming...It was scary! That way, I think chennai is better. Since the roads are bad, you cannot drive beyond a certain speed. And in Hyd, the auto meters work!!!!!

Bangalore is full of parks. Chennai might not have 10% of the greenery that is there in bangalore. But whereever I go, my heart is always in chennai - bad roads, stagnant water, hot and dry - whatever be it, chennai is close to my heart.

Had been to Bangalore to take my amma to Eye doctor. She has a macular hole in her left eye and has been advised surgery. The entire thing sounds scary. If any of you have info on this macular hole surgery do let me know.

Sometimes I wonder how nice it would be if parents dint get older. I wish my mom had the same energy as she had when I was young - when we played hide and seek together, came with me to all those hindi and pattu classes i went! When I used to come back from pilani at the end of every semester, when I saw my parents in the station I used to think - my appa looks lil bit older than what he was when I went. Now I feel that every month :-(

I have been travelling a lot...

Really! looking at my blog..i see only travelogues. Anyway, we had been to Swamimalai few weeks back. This has been a long pending visit - should have gone after our marriage. But better late than never. It is a nice temple, but after being a regular at kapaleeshwarar temple, I feel for the crowd Swamimalai is pulling, the temple could have been better maintained.
We also stopped over at Kumbeshwarar temple in kumbakonam.

But the most impressive temple during the visit was the Ram temple in kumabakonam. The deity was so majestic - I could just keep looking at the diety for a long time. Entire ramayana was depcited as paintings in the walls. There are so many short stories with in Ramayana, I realized, I dint know many of them on seeing those paintings. The temple also has lot of beautiful intricate stone carvings.

Over all a very satisfying trip ( if we forget the goof up the abirami travels did - we had to wait in the bus stand for 3-4 hours with all our luggage and stuff- Irritating!)

Had also been to Hyd for couple of days - project work. Any day, any time, it is really nice meeting old college friends. Had been to the one of the eat-outs near Husain Sagar lake. The lake is beautiful. Pity, I could not visit the birla mandir (kept reminding me of the saraswati temple in BITS). Is that lake really man made!!!!

What am I up to now?? - S~ in US, me keeping fingers crossed - waiting for my visa.

Ponniyin Selvan

I have wanted to read Ponniyin Selvan for a long time now, but never got a chance. I started reading it on my trip to London and I fell in love - with the book, with Vallavarayan Vanthiadevan - the central character around which the story revolves. I told S~ if I had met VV before I met you, your chances would have been very slim ;-)

A true master piece - war-romance-politics-travel-kings-queens-spies-soldiers-plots-all packed in one.
I was wondering why no one made a movie out of this. But may be it is because no one can give life to those words. The movie can never be comparable to the book.

I need to finish the entire series- been reading like mad - I am heading to the car now - and Ponniyin Selvan, here I come :-)

London

I just put a kutti tick mark next to "Visit Europe" - something i have been having in my mind for a long time now. Apart from the hundered and one to-do items i list down and maintain in my diary, I also maintain a short list of TO-DOs in my mind - and one of those just got realized. Actually it was "Visit Europe before marriage" since that did not happen, I conveniently modified it to "Visit Europe".

It has been just couple of weeks and I will probably be here for a week more - I havn't seen much, but from what I have seen, it is a beautiful place. Especially the lane opposite to buckingham palace - i dont have words to describe. If S~ was here, I would just pack one picnic basket and go and sit in one of those lanes and spend all of my sunday there. And, I just noticed, the lamp posts in that lane have a crown!!!!

London is full of statues. I was just wondering, even we could make all those statues we have out in chennai a tourist attraction. London bridge was magnificent and beautiful - an architectural master piece! The place surrounding Big Ben is amazing. I had also been to Madame Tussauds - It was OK, just OK. They have something called a thriller ride (forgot the actual name) where live serial killers perform - It was not scary at all. I was just conscious trying hard not to touch any of those guys.

Saw Da Vinci Code...nothing like watching a movie in six degrees in the satyam complex. Yet to find a theater better than the ones at satyam.

Two other weekends went off in the guest house understading Spring,JSF, weblogic security framework blah blah blah - How did I ever land up in this software industry. I have one more TO-DO in my mental TO-DO list - "Do something non-IT in life". Wonder when the time would come for me to put my kutti tick mark next to it.

I also have few other random observations - All houses have garden and the garden actually has flowers. In chennai, how much ever care you take, water the roses - you will hardly see one rose bloom and we are like there is a rose in my garden. Here, the people dont even seem to water the plants regularly, but the garden is full of roses - you name the color and they have a rose in that color.

All houses have a name and the front door is of glass. I actually like the glass door idea. I have the picture of "my home" which has undergone lot of changes over the years. And after this London visit, "my home" has a glass door with a nice glass painting on it. I actually have made note of a house, which I will photograph before I come back. My SIL does all this glass painting - may be she can do that door piece for me - Now that is thinking too much into future.

And most importantly, dont houses over here have fans? or is only my guest house like this? It is very hot here right now, and the owner says, It is hot for 10 days in a year and we can have AC for that - YOu are from India and you shoudn't be complaining. Well I said, True, but we have fans/AC in india!!!!

Destiny

(I found this when I was cleaning up stuff..I guess I wrote this some two years back when I was bored to death in the united states. It is funny reading stuff you have written years ago. I am tempted to make a few changes, but I am lazy too and as usual the lazy part of me wins :-). So here is it in the as-is state...)

Today is our first anniversary. Our marriage was not easy – I am a Hindu. He is a Christian. My parents would not relent. His parents were stubborn too. I had almost lost hope. What if they never agree? What if we are never able to convince them? Should we marry in a temple? a church? Though these questions kept coming to my mind, I knew I could never marry without my parents consent. Sometimes I used to dream of me sitting on my father’s lap and Robert tying the knot. It was just a dream, but still it would bring a smile to my face.

Ding dong! Ding dong! I wake up startled by the sound of the clock.

Robert will be back in an hour, and here I am thinking of the past – useless past. I decide to think about something nice and interesting – the day I first met Robert.

He just bumped on to me, poured all of the hot steaming coffee on me. In the process, I broke the juice glass I was carrying. I froze for a moment – was my hip bone broken or something? I gave him an angry glare.

'God has given you two eyes, why don’t you use them? '

'I thought somebody called me, and so looked back. Din’t notice you were coming. Sorry.'

I looked at him for a second. I thought he was not faking. He was genuinely sorry.

'It is ok.' I said, wondering if the coffee stains would go away from my beautiful cotton salwar.

He seemed to be a regular at the food court. We met again few days later. I din’t recognize him immediately. But I thought he kept staring at me, and looked back. And then I remembered. But I continued walking.

'Mam, Are you still angry with me???''…he came running behind me. And that is how the conversation started.

It is interesting to note how relationships develop. Like a child keeping small steps when learning to walk, our friendship grew stronger by the day. In fact, I should thank ramya. If not for her, I might not have met Robert.

It was a Sunday evening. I was playing solitaire on my computer, and that is when my room mates suggested that we should probably be doing something more interesting. We decided to do some general chatting on the net. What started as a time pass, became a part of our daily routine. And there was a reason behind it – Ramya. How can someone be so gullible and inncocent??? We got introduced through chat - ofcourse, i dont use my ream name when I chat. For her, I was Prem. I knew it was probably not right, but ramya was starting to like me. She used to tell me everything. Poor thing, I thought she did not have many friends. My room mates and myself, we were enjoying this - every bit of it.

It was her birthday that day. She said she would treat me and we decided to meet at the food court. I gave her information on what I would be wearing. My room mates and myself were waiting for that evening - to see that poor girl searching for her chat friend in the food court crowd. Anyway, she never came or atleast we never saw anyone wearing a pink top and a blue jean waiting near the entrance. May be she was scared. I never chatted with her after that. That day, I din't get to meet ramya, but I met Robert!

'You are not yet ready. Dont you want to go to the movie today??'

'I will be done in a few minutes dear. I was thinking about the first day we met.'

'hmm...u were day dreaming! Incidentally, even I was thinking about it when I was driving. You know sapna, there is a special person, if not for him I would not have met you. Yes his name is Prem - we were chat friends. Poor fellow, I had asked him to come and he believed me....how could someone...'

Robert continued talking. But I never heard what he said. His words got lost in my thoughts. I just went blank and kept staring at him - It has been a year now and we never knew!!!
Fortunately or un fortunately, destiny it seemed to be.

Dreamz Unlimited...

Well, who does not dream??? School days, we want to get good marks, get the group of our choice, get into a good college. When in college, we dream of joining a reputed firm, good salary :-). For some, it is about writing GRE/CAT - going abroad for higher education. Once we start working, we want to climb up the corporate ladder, big fat pay packages, buy a car, house, start a company/business etc etc. We then dream of getting married to someone who is compatible, same wavelength, nice family, and satisfying numerous other criteria. If we get caught in the love web, we want to marry the person we love and wish our parents would agree. Then we need to save for future - for our kids - education, marriage etc etc. As we grow older, we wish our kids would do well in college, get a good job, marry, settle down and he happy. Then it is time for grand children.

Our life in essence is made of these small and big desires - probably that is what makes us going and makes life interesting. As R~ says, it is probably not about buying a house in Jayanagar bangalore and setting down, there is something more to it, but until we find that out, these little wishes definitely give us something to look forward to and plan our present for the future. There is definitely a joy in having these small goals and trying to move towards it. It could be the desire to learn guitar, pottery, glass painting or it could be as big as starting a firm, bungee jumping ( well, s~ wants to do it some day! sigh! I am worried now itself) - we accomplish only what we dream!

OK, so much for a saturday afternoon, I guess, i will just go ahead and dream of what I could do once S~ comes back from delhi - watch a movie perhaps or maybe cook something real nice and stay at home. But u know the problem if u r married - we are two peas in a pod and you just cant dream alone - what if i dream of going to a movie and he just wants to be at home and watch some cricket match (God! do they play cricket 364 days a year???). So, i guess i will drop the dreams for now and just take a nap. zzzzzzzz....

Srilanka

Last month same time we were freaking out in Srilanka. Today it is already midnite and he is still in office, working - well, I married a software engineer. Anyway, this post is not about S ~ coming late from office ( i will dedicate another post for that). This is about the beautiful Srilanka. You step in Srilanka and you wonder how can there be so much greenery, especially if you are from a place like chennai!!! The place is full of trees, mountains and lakes.

We visited Sita Elia temple, which is supposed to be the place where Ravana had kept Sita. The haggala gardens (asoka vanam) is beautiful - but it was not the season for flowers.

Another thing about srilanka is they dont have anything in the ground level. You have to spend considerable amount of energy in treking even if you got to visit a temple.

The elephant ride was amazing. You can feel the muscles moving when you sit on top. And the first few times the elephant flaps its ears - Man! what a feeling! Surat Ali, that was the elephant's name - It was a real friendly elephant. There is also a place called pinnewala, which is the elephant orphanage - We couldn't catch the elephant feeding. But it was quite a sight to see hundred elephants in one place.

When we went to the Horton Plains, the guide at the entrance said - We can occassionally see lepords, lion etc. Usually they come only at night but sometimes they can come during the day time also. It did scare us a lil bit but we thought he was saying that so that we would take him as the guide. Anyway, we decided to go on our own. Luckily we found few other people who have been coming to the place for like 20-25 years. There is a waterfall in horton plains and the best part is the view from world' s end - breathtaking.

The pic you see above(the one where i am sitting), is actually in world's end. There is just one step below my feet (S~ wouldn't allow me to sit in the last step). And further one step, you will tumble down some 2000 feet.

We also saw dambulla, which the buddhist cave temple, and the temple of tooth (buddha's tooth is supposed to be kept there). The only fiasco was the attempt to visit Adam's peak - It so happened we went there on a weekend and some 3000 local people had come to visit that place. On top of the place, Sri pada (buddha's feet) is supposed to be there and the sun rise from that is supposed to be wonderful. We started around 1.30 so that we can reach there by 5.30 to see the sun rise. Fourtunately or unfortunately, there was a huge stampede at the top and we had to return half way through. It was a tough climb and we had almost reached. I was so disappointed that all the effort in climbing that steep terrain had gone waste. We dint get to see the sunrise, and I also had a sprain, because of which we could not climb sigiria. Sigiria is again a peak - they said there was a palace that was built but stopped half way through on top of the peak.

Did some shopping in house of fashions - I never thought clothes could be so cheap. They are cheaper than in India, that too all branded items. But the sad part was we had only one hour for shopping - the shop closes at 8. The other sad thing was, because of this shopping we did not get to enjoy the beach at Mt Lavinia.

Anyway, I know I will definitely go to Srilanka again sometime in future. - will take care of all un fulfilled wishes at that time. But rite now, I will be more than happy if S~ comes back soon :-)

I am back

I am back...its been a long time. Well, i have reasons - I just got married :-). Well, seems like just married, but it is already gonna be a month now.
Been to Kerala & Srilanka - Will post more on that soon.

Chandramukhi Enters Fancy Dress Competition...

Anything out of the ordinary always attracts attention. I read this article in Hindu and was instantly impressed. I have myself participated in a few fancy dress competitions during my school days. But it was always the routine make-ups you would see in any fancy dress competition - Iyer mami with madisar, radha, nurse etc. I keep asking my amma, couldn't you think of anything else at all. Easier said than done ah? My amma was working and I guess she would have had a tough time - thinking of ideas, preparing me, hunting for costumes, dressing me up. Infact, she used to take off that day. The competitions are more of a test for the parents than the kids. My sister got to do a Burmese once. I still remember how we hunted for her burmese costume. But it was a big hit. I guess, the routine nehru, gandhi, indra gandhi have all taken a back seat now and children are becoming more creative (or should I say the parents!).

The girl in pic won the price for her performance as chandramukhi in a fancy dress competition conducted by BSNL! Way to Go!

Rain Forest Cafe

How many times do we come across a restaurant that pleases all categories of people - be it some young couple wanting some privacy or a family wishing to have a nice meal together or a group of friends who want to make noise, have fun and enjoy. I visited one such place in chennai which can claim to satisfy all the groups - Rain Forest Cafe.

I have been to the Rain Forest Cafe in the US. They have adopted the same concept. The restaurant is in the basement, and gives a cave effect. In the evenings with all those lights, the place looks great. The door to the restaurant is something like what you find in Alibaba and 40 thieves. When we finished our diner and came near the door, it opened by itself. We did not even have to say abracadabra. But we did learn the secret, it seems, someone from inside rings a bell whenever a customer is about to leave, and the guy standing out opens the door - Cool ah!

The ambience is great! There is a small waterfall, there are bamboo sticks on the walls with leaves all over. We did not have an elaborate meal, but the vegetable manchurian balls is defenitely going to make me go over again. The restaurant has both veg and non-veg. I am not sure how the non-veg items are, all the vegetarian items we had tasted good. The prices are a bit steep and i think they could have taken more care while choosing the decorations - be it the leaves on the walls or the tomatoes on the table - a lil more quality would have made it more appealing.

However, the concept is new, the ambience is cool, the service is great and food is tasty - so, if you want to enjoy your evening and have good food then rain forest cafe is a good choice.
Rainforest cafe is near Adyar signal. You will miss it but for the electric lights around their name board.

whatz in a name?

Come on tell me, whatz in a name? Say, if I my name was Sanjana or Samyuktha, would I be any different? Or, if i right now, change my name to something else, will my life be better? There are so many people advocating nameology...is it really true???

Well, let me tell u what actually triggered this line of thought...I have been looking at the diwali sales - why is that some shops have such a huge crowd and some shops have no one else other than their employees. Why do people go to some shops inspite of the fact that the place is so crowded that you cant even breath and all u can smell is sweat! If you cant understand what I am talking, just check out some shops in tnagar.

Coming back to the topic, if saravana stores was actually not called saravana stores or if rmkv was called abcd, will they still be making this sales? Is name so important in establishing the brand?? or do people throng these shops because of the price/quality/advertisements yada yada...

Will writing the name as Aarthi or Arthi or Arthy or Arti or Aarthy or RT make my life different???? Tell me folks, whatz in a name???

Festival of Lights

Thanks to rain gods...looks like they have heard our "rain rain go away" prayers. Two days back, looking at the incessant rains, everybody in chennai would have definitely felt that it is gonna be indoor diwali this year.

Personally for me, the craze for crackers has absolutely gone down. Now it is more like some kambi mathappu for sasthram. Diwali during my school days for fun. There were lot of kids of my age group and we used to compete with each other and see who was making the most noise and who had lot of cracker papers in front of their house.
But i guess, this year it is going to be just tv programs, a visit to the temple and go and wish our relatives who are nearby.

Wish all you guys a very happy and safe diwali. At the same time, I would like to take a moment and pray for all those who have lost their lives in the Delhi blast and AP train accident.

It is raining cats and dogs!

Being in chennai, with all the water scarcity and with everybody praying for more rain, I should probably not be saying this, but this rain makes everything so messy...The roads are totally horrible...there is water everywhere...just everywhere. I have to walk for about 5-10 mts from home to bus stand - but god only knows how many prayers I have uttered in those 5 mts. Everytime, a car crosses by, I say a prayer, hoping the driver would notice the pool of water and slow down and my dress would be saved.

So, whatz good about these rainy days???

Simple Pleasures in Life...

There are lot of small things, simple things that make me happy...one such is spending time in mottai madi. Right from my childhood days, a stroll in the mottai madi has been a part of my daily routine. After coming back from school, I used to have some snacks, watch tv and then take my huge school bag to mottai madi. I have the habit of walking and reading - a good part of my school days was spent in the mottai madi - chemistry/physics/maths - mottai madi has heard it all!

I used to take a break by seeing the kids play cricket. Religiously, they used to hit the ball into our house and my grandfather would refuse to give it back. I used to be standing and enjouying all this from the mottai madi and those kids used to look at me pleadingly to get them the ball back. Ah those days!

Even now, when I come back from work passing the traffic/pollution et al, mottai madi comes as a relief. Gentle breeze, my walkman singining sutrum vizhi sudare from ghajni - Oh man! can I ask for more??? Sometimes, I just lie down, and keep gazing at the stars, the clouds. When I was young, I used to play this game with my mom. At times, the clouds take different shapes- a rat, a boy, a tower. I used to imagine some shape and mom has to find out where the shape(cloud) is on the sky!

Or, sometimes, I take my dinner to mottai madi - eat leasuirely - a novel on hand - Is this what is called Life!
Apart from all this fun stuff, mottai madi has been a part of all important decisions in my life. That is where I have made all the decisions - right from going to Pilani for studies to choosing my lifepartner.
It is definitely true - We derive great pleasure doing simple things!

Just Thinking...

In a few days we complete 4 months together...Life has just been smooth and great...I am just thinking if there are things which I thought would happen but did not...

** I hate paying bills/keeping track of accounts/expenses. I was just hoping to get this burden off and move it to the guy I marry. Looks like that is not the case ;-) he seems to be very smart in pushing things to me. Like the other day i actually got the airtel form for him...few months back if someone told this to me...I would have said never!

** My cousin and her husband work in the same office. Her husband once told me..."hey u guys in the same office...u guys gonna end up waiting for each other and it can be frustrating at times". I said "No way, I go home when I finish and he goes home when he finishes". But I find myself waiting for him...but i do agree, it does get frustrating at times. But if I dont do that, we would meet only during the weekends, and that might get even more frustrating :-)

I am sure the second one will change when we get married...i really doubt the first one.

But keeping these two aside, we have had no major fights...and I am not avoiding fights to please him...is this something i should be happy about??? Wonder when i will start circling the dates in the calendar like shalini does in alaipauthey. May be I will just try disagreeing to anything and everything he says and see what happens...God! of all the things to worry about I am worrying about not fighting with him!!! Sigh!

F.r.i.e.n.d.s

I just cant get tired of watching friends. Infact i think i am addicted. Long after the serial has ended, i still watch the episodes whenever i find time.
You know the best thing about f.r.i.e.n.d.s...just cant say who is the best. Wait, lemme think again...joey is undoubtedly funny...but chandler is funny too...and then there is phoebe with her classic one line phrases that make u roll with laughter...then, there is the beauty queen rachel...ross..monica...oh my god! I can never decide. But one thing is for sure, I will continue watching f.r.i.e.n.d.s forever...and everytime, I laugh like did when I saw the episode for the first time. Sometimes my mom gets a lil psyched when she sees me laughing all by myself...guess she has got used to it now ;-)

On second thoughts, I could have as well titled this as About Northpole and Southpole.

Check out this conversation between him and her:

Day: Monday

Her: Whatz the plan for sunday?
Him: Nothing much
Her: Can we go get the wedding ring?
Him: What???? (if it had been slightly louder, we could have well termed it a scream)
Her: I thought we were gonna get engaged shortly...like in a month
Him: Yes, but what for that?
Her: We need to get a ring
Him: But why should we get a ring
Her: It is just tradition to get something for the guy
Him: But should I come for that?
Her: Yes. The ring is for you
Him: I dont wear jewellery. I am not a ringy guy (now, that was the first time she heard that one)
Her: It is a simple ring.Nothing will happen to you if you wear it.
Him: But why all this? I will wear it for max two days...no i mean max two hours
Her: It is ok. But still we should get.
Him: U said sunday rite, why talk about it now. Lets see when sunday comes.

Day: Sunday

Her: So, we are going today rite?
Him: I am doing this only for you
Her: Thatz very nice of u..now we need to get a shirt and pant
Him: What??? (this time it is really a scream)
Her: Did i say something scary?
HIm: You think I dont have enough shirts?
Her: It is just tradition
Him: Hmm..You first said ring and now you say shirt...what else?
Her: That is all
Him: OK. But one condition. We will go to just one shop and get something in half an hour.
Her: OK. I have to like that. U have to like that. If that happens, then we will get.
Him: Half an hour. One shop

Scene: Shop 1

Her: Do you like plain or with stones?
Him: silence
She starts checking out a few rings. He is just staring
Her: Why dont you see some rings instead of just staring
Him: Ya ya. I am doing that.
Her: How about this?
Him: silence
Her: Why dont you check the size?
Him: OK
Her: How about this?
HIm: silence
Her: Put this on.
He puts it on.
Him: Do we have to get it only with stones...something plain?
(wow! he has opinions too)
Her: How about this?
He wears it. But no comments
She shows something totally rediculous.
Him: We cant discard that.
(Not bad. he is not blind and he is thinking, following whatz happening and listening!!!)
Her: How about this?
Him: Yeah. This is fine.
Her: It is just OK.Why dont you put this on and show it to me?
He has it for less and 5 secs. She has to make the decision within 5 secs
Her: Can we go and check in someother shop?
Him: Everything will be same. What is wrong with this?
Her: How will we know without seeing? This is just OK..nothing great
Him: silence
Her: Only one more shop. If we dont find anything good, we will come back and get this.
Him: When I wear the ring, I feel as if some external object is on my hand.
Her: But you are OK to have my hand on yours! (wrong time for a romantic statement)
Him: silence

Scene: Shop 2

Tries out a few rings
Her: This is good
Him: This is it. This is nice and we will get this. End of story.
Next they go to get the shirt...let me not even start writing about that.
Him: There was an india-west indies match and still I came with you. Just for you. Do you realize what a big thing that is??
Her: Next week I am thinking of getting wedding saris, can you come along.
HIm: I will be there...morally with you

So much for something, that happens once in a lifetime
